When teaching any type of student, from gifted to learning disabled and everywhere in between, it all comes down to differentiation. What is differentiation? It's how teachers with a class of 20 students each at their own academic level challenge and adjust to help everyone learn.
In terms of teaching gifted students, lessons need to have evident differentiation and there needs to be room for synthesis of information. While teachers can easily adjust their lessons through adding rich, open-ended questions, there are a few specific models in which gifted students will truly benefit.
Not only does the instructional method need to be adjusted for gifted students, but there are certain formats for curriculum that they can benefit from as well. Curriculum models reflect the way that the curriculum is designed for a specific purpose.
